I will fight for strong neighborhood public schools in every community, so that each child, regardless of race, gender, economic class or location, can attend a fully-funded school in their neighborhood. Traditional neighborhood schools anchor and enrich our communities and we must make funding them a top priority. School funding in PA is among the worst in the nation, and our shameful underfunding of schools hurts both urban and rural kids. I will fight to end the school to prison pipeline; as a society we must invest in our children, not criminalize them.
As your representative, I will:
- Fight for fair and full funding of all public schools, pre-K to higher education.
Work to end high stakes testing that forces educators to teach to a test. - Prioritize respecting teachers with reasonable class sizes, fair compensation, union representation, and timely contracts.
- Support a moratorium on new charters and cyber-charters until their effectiveness and long-term costs are evaluated and they are held to the same standards as traditional public schools.
