Right now Pennsylvania spends more on prisons than on public education. We must end the era of mass incarceration, and shift from investing in punishment to investing in our children and our future. That includes changing the way we police poor communities and communities of color, and putting in place intelligent and proactive policing that targets people who commit violent crimes. Similarly, law enforcement and prosecutors should target the most serious crimes. We must treat drug addiction as a public health issue and invest resources in reducing the harm it does to our families and communities.
As your representative, I will:
- Work to end the “school to-prison pipeline” and ensure that suspension, expulsion, and incarceration are used as a last resort.
- Fight to end “cash bail,” which incarcerates thousands of people pre-trial for minor offenses.
Support common sense gun control legislation to keep our communities safe. - Invest in long-term treatment programs so our neighbors and friends can get the help they need.
Hold drug-makers accountable for their role in creating the opioid epidemic.
